New to remote work? Our tips & tricks

March 26, 2020

Here are some Tips & Tricks:

1. Start early. Be an early bird and take the time that was previously spent on commuting and use it to get ahead of the day. Set up your technology and sign into your remote working tools like Slack, Google Hangouts or Microsoft Team’s. Download any apps like GoToMeetings or Skype. That way you will be ready for any last minute on-line meetings.

2. Utilize your calendar. Online meetings are most successful when they start on time with everyone ready to participate. After your meetings are in place, schedule your focused work time. If you can, try and schedule lunches and break time. That way your team knows when you are available and ready for any chats to keep work moving forward.

3. Create a separate work space. For some who have space in a family room or extra bedroom, you will have the ability to shut a door to create a mini-office. If you find yourself in a smaller space it might be hard to separate. In those circumstances try a barrier, like a bookshelf or curtains to create a cozy corner office area. Consider investing in noise canceling headphones that helps you focus when not meeting.

5. Communicate. Make sure your team knows when you are available, especially if you are managing projects. Communicate your work schedule to people you live with.

6. Log-off. Set a time to officially end the day. Working from home has its perks, but taking care of your mental health is important. It’s best to make sure you have an official finishing time so you can focus on friends and family.
