National Gratitude Month

November 16, 2023

Increasing the amount of gratitude in our daily lives is a wonderful way to improve mental and physical health, job satisfaction, and overall happiness. National Gratitude Month reminds us that kindness can be one of the most powerful tools out there for building social bonds and achieving success in both our personal and professional lives.

After the past few whirlwind years, it has never been more important for companies to recognize National Gratitude Month. By showing appreciation, both employers and employees can lift each other’s spirits.

Here are some ways you and your company can give thanks this year.

Start by Giving Thanks

Start by saying ‘Thank You’ to your team and colleagues. Remember to be authentic and really mean what you say. Because, believe it or not, it’s all too easy to overlook the contributions of your company’s most important asset: your team.

Peer Recognition

Encouraging peer recognition among your employees is a great way to boost morale and performance in your company. Thanking your coworkers for their hard work is the best way to show that you appreciate them.

Offer a Helping Hand

Show your employees that their hard work has not gone unnoticed.  When you offer them a helping hand with their projects, they’ll feel appreciated and more dedicated to the company.

Team Building Activities

Offer employees a break from time to time to let off steam.
Having team-building activities now and then will help the employees bond with each other, learn new things about the job, and get a moment to destress.

Organize Volunteer Work

Encourage your employees to give back to the community by volunteering or organize opportunities for them to do so. Whether it’s helping out at a local food bank or participating in a community cleanup, volunteering is a perfect way to show gratitude.

Make a Donation

Make a donation in employees’ names to a charitable organization or nonprofit of their choice. You can also encourage employees to donate and match their donations to double the impact.

Give Employees a Break

Whether you declare a company-wide day off or just encourage employees to step away from their computers, giving them a well-deserved break is a perfect way to show them appreciation.

Encourage Reflection

To recognize National Gratitude Month this year, encourage your employees to reflect on what they are grateful for. Consider kicking off a call by asking each of your team members to share something they’re grateful for—whether it’s good health, loved ones, or a job. This kind of reflection is what National Gratitude Month is all about.

Finding ways to show gratitude each day keeps us from dwelling on negative emotions and brings us back to a positive mindset. Beyond just ourselves, however, it also has the effect of boosting others, which is a great way to pay it forward.
