Have you ever heard the quote from John Wanamaker “Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is I don’t know which half.” Well obviously Mr. Wanamaker didn’t live during the digital age where every click, visit and tweet can be tracked.

From small business owners to global enterprises, web analysis and digital campaign tracking is a vital part of knowing the company’s success. Alex Navarro wrote this phenomenal article on How to Jumpstart your Google Analytics Account.

Web analytics is the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of web data for purposes of understanding and optimizing web usage.  This information helps you understand how visitors are using your website and web usage.  Google Analytics is a free digital marketing tool which enables you to see how many times your website has been viewed, which of your pages within your website have been clicked on, where the person is geographically located, etc.  Google Analytics enables you to run a variety of online marketing campaigns where you’ll see where most of your traffic is on your website, which of those were conversions and you should begin to see your revenue grow!

Earlier this week I came across an article written by Kristi Kines about the 9 Awesome Things You Can Do with Google Analytics 5 Kissmetrics Blog (a blog that focuses on analytics, marketing and testing).

Here are the top 5 highlights from the blog…

  1. See your most important analytics data first.   As soon as you login to see your analytics, make sure that your Dashboard is all set up.
  2. Find out which online campaigns bring the most traffic and conversions.  You can customize your segments within your online campaign and find out your ROI of not only your social media campaign, but any of your marketing strategies as well.
  3. Determine where your best visitors are located.
  4. Learn what people are searching for on your website.
  5. Visualize what people click on the most.  This will allow you to know which areas of your website are more frequently visited than the other pages and how many clicks you receive per page.

It’s remarkable that Google Analytics offers Data Collection and Management, Data Analysis, Visualization, and Reporting all for free!  Being in the “know” on every aspect of your website is eye opening and a game changer!
